    “Prevent and control crime”

    ARRA provides billions in funding for criminal justice programs and allows state and local governments to support a broad range of services in an effort to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system. The U.S. Department of Justice awards funds to states and certain local jurisdictions both by formula based on population and crime rates and through competitive opportunities for innovative or needs-based programs.

Internet Crimes Against Children Grants

Funds help coordinate  missing and exploited children’s activities and support research, training, technical assistance, and demonstration programs to enhance the overall response to missing children and their families; and support law enforcement demonstration programs to enhance the investigative response to missing and exploited children cases. 

Amount of Award: $652,491.00

Violence Against Women Grants

Stimulus funds are available for supplemental public safety grants through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Services, Training, Officers, Prosecution (STOP) grant program.  The grant programs provide funding opportunities for victim services projects throughout the Commonwealth. Stimulus VAWA STOP grants may be used to support service delivery to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual assault.

Amount of Award: $2,088,443.00

Crime Victims Assistance

The VOCA program funds projects that serve victims of burglary or theft, survivors of victims of homicide, victims of drug and alcohol-related crime, elderly victims, and adult survivors of incest. Services to these groups focus on crisis intervention and assistance in obtaining benefits from compensation programs. State agencies, local units of government, and private not-for-profit organizations may apply for these funds.  Funds are available for spending for four years.

Crime Victims Compensation

Alleviates or prevents financial hardship by providing financial assistance to or on behalf of individuals who are victims of violent crimes and pay or incur crime related medical, mental health, funeral expenses or loss of earnings.

Amount of Award: $89,537.00

Federally Awarding Agency: Department of Justice

Byrne Justice Assistance Grants-State

Funds will be used to support new and continuing public safety and justice programs, including enforcement, victims’ services, substance abuse prevention, and offender intervention. The Justice and Public Safety Cabinet will administer these awards to state and local governments and not-for-profit agencies across the Commonwealth.  The one-time funds represent the largest portion of the state’s public safety stimulus dollars.
